I couldn't foresee such immense privilege
As I entered your life, so full of luggage,
But meeting you, your heart so pure,
Who could resist such strong allure?
You taught I could love this way
And so many days I wish I could stay.
You’re the one thing I will always be proud,
Even when taken over by the creeping dark cloud.
In a lot of ways I'm a rootless wanderer
A hopeless soul that can't stand an anchor,
But deep inside I always had this fear,
The day you'd need me and I wasn't near.
Traveling so much and being away
I can't stop myself from going astray,
But in all those places, I've never felt so far,
As when I'm miles away from where you are
And who would have guessed just hours ago,
With a smile on my face that for sure made me glow,
As I hanged your picture on my bedroom wall,
That my heart would suddenly become so small?
I usually claim it as my refuge,
But today the night just feels too huge.
The increasing silence I learned to love
Just feeds the bad thoughts flying above.
We made our vows despite the distance,
But it does nothing to easy my conscience.
Because life happens, and comes days like this,
It all just sounds like empty promises.
I would truly give it all away
Just for a chance to be there a day.
But all I have left now, is to wait
Hoping my prays help you feel great.
One thing though keeps my spirit high,
One simple fact no one can deny.
If there's one thing I know about children
Is that no-one else is so resilient.

You've got mail! / Há correio!
Nota: Versão Portuguesa mais abaixo.
I always had this obsession with letters.
I remember being 6 or 7 years old and every day
run to the mail box to check the mail only to get extremely disappointed when
day after day my parents would have mail waiting for them, and there was nothing
in it for me. Little did I know that all they got were bills and responsibilities,
but at least they were getting something.
Eventually one of my older cousins felt sorry
for me and started to send me some
mail. She would write little notes or drawings that she would put in the
mailbox herself before coming to visit us at my house. They were just simple
messages, but boy was I excited!
There was something magical about going to that
little box and being surprised by something that was meant for no-one else but
me. I still have them, all of them, every little note or postcard that I ever
got.
The years passed and you would think one would let
go of this childish ideas, but no, I might not run to the mailbox anymore, but I’d
sure still enjoy the occasional surprise when I’d get one. The evolution of the
society didn’t help, after all, being part of the generation Y, with everyone
becoming computer savvy and having a mobile phone on their pockets only meant
less and less mail, but I did my best… As a teenager I would exchange letters
with younger cousins (even my friends’ cousins!), I would always send loads of
postcards during holidays and during long school breaks me and my friend would
write each other long letters that we would send by mail (even though we only
lived a few Km apart).
After college, during my first Gap Year as an
Au Pair in the USA, once in a while my mother would send me and the kids a care
package, and if I used to like to get them, the kids absolutely loved them! It didn’t
even matter what was inside, they would just get so excited with the idea of
getting something. Later, when I moved to Poland for a while, I challenged my
friends to send me letters/postcards to color the blank walls in my bedroom they
rose to the occasion which made my stay there way more fun.
As I keep traveling around the world or even
when I’m back home I keep finding excuses to mail something out, maybe because
I have friends spread around the globe, or maybe because I get as much joy out
of sending mail than as receiving. And maybe it’s silly, because I don’t even know
if anyone really cares about this things anymore, but if they get half as happy
as me when I get mail, than it is worth it, because even now, being a grown
woman, getting unexpected mail truly just makes my day.
Há correio!
Sempre tive esta obsessão por
cartas.
havia nada pra mim.
primas sentiu pena de mim e decidiu começar a enviar-me correio.
Eles aceitaram o

Other shoe to drop
Sometimes I just have this utter need to feel
sad.
As if a switch is turn on inside me and I can’t
stand feeling so light. As if I need to feel pain and sadness taking over. I
might be having a good day, my mood might be far from dark, and yet I’m
overcome by this suddenly need to change it… and so I need to go and find the
darkest movies scenes I remember, re-read the saddest stories I’ve saved beforehand,
listen to that impossibly depressing playlist.
I don’t know how to be a happy person, I’m always
waiting for the other shoe to drop. So maybe that’s what it is, maybe
unconsciously I’m trying to keep myself in check, keeping my guard up.

From zero to hero / De zero a herói
Nota: Versão portuguesa mais abaixo
Perceptions change so quickly these days. It’s
unbelievable how quickly one can go from zero to hero (and vice-versa). We are
quick to judge, and loud to express it. I’m all for freedom of speech, but that
shouldn’t mean we can openly offend people without even thinking twice. We make
fun of people, we hurt them, through jokes mostly, but nonetheless we hurt
them.
We do it often with people in the public eye. It
became so natural, at some point it became expected that simply because someone
has a public role (regardless of what or why) they have to accept all sorts of invasion,
judgements and negative comments. They’re expected to be strong enough to live
with them. We look at their figures and we attack them as if that’s all they
are, as if the fact that they are human beings, with real feelings and emotions
got lost, as if that didn’t matter.
It’s like we think that due to their position,
automatically nothing can shake them. And yes, some people might be strong
enough to take it, some might learn to cope with it along the way, to rise above,
to use it as fuel to become better or to simply ignore it, but that’s not the
point, the point is they shouldn’t have to be tested like this, they shouldn’t
need to hear all they hear, to risk believing it. Life is hard enough without
this added pressure.
I am a fun of humor, I think there is room for
laugh in life and that we can’t take ourselves too seriously, but I also think
sometimes we go too far. Granted most times it’s unintentional, we might think
it’s no big deal, you’re just one person, they’ll probably never even hear it,
but we forget how fast words spread these days, how easily they reach people’s ears,
how they multiply, how they impact others.
When I hear stories about people who faced and
overcame great deals of negativity and succeeded in what they do, I always
think how many others could have gotten that far if only they weren’t shut down
before they even got a real chance.
I believe everyone is entitled to their
opinion, I believe in honesty and I believe in criticism as a way of improving,
but that’s not what we usually do… what we do is make fun of people, offend
them, bully them. We live in a society that preaches kids about bullying other
children in school and then bullies people in real life just for a laugh. What
message are we sending?
There are so many talented people out there who
might not be confidence enough to come out and show their brilliance and at
this pace, they will never be. How much are we losing because we’re more focused
on making fun of people than supporting them?

De zero a herói
As opiniões mudam tão rapidamente
vice-versa). Somos céleres a julgar e expressamo-lo bem alto. Sou completamente
arriscar a acreditar nelas.
levar demasiado a sério.

Do it like a girl
I started playing basketball when I was ten and
it was love at first sight. I was active in school, I was good in PE, I’d sign
up for every sport event, I used to run around and jump during breaks and in general
I was always ready to try anything sports related. I had tried other sports, I had
done gymnastics and dance, but basketball was always my passion. Basketball is
not necessarily perceived as a “girls’ sport” (whatever that might
mean) so even though I didn’t think much of it at the time, now I realize that in
a lot of ways we were pressured to act more tomboyish, as if being feminine would
take away your toughness on the court. Even though I used to be the girly girl
type as a small child, soon I stopped wanting to wear skirts and dresses, my
hair was constantly up in a messy ponytail and for a years I wouldn’t even dare
considering make up. This would all be fine if it would have come naturally,
but now I see that it didn’t, that it was a result of me wanting to be accepted
and respected as a basketball player.
The term “playing
like a girl” was always used in a demeaning way and even though coaches
would complain we weren’t as though as boys, truth is the coaches themselves
were softer on us because we were girls. They were creating the gap, so if
there were any difference it was because they demanded and expected less from
their female teams.
I remember being 14 years old, sitting in my
first ever meeting as a “coach in training”,
and listen to this coach in his 30’s stating he didn’t like female basketball,
that he just didn’t get the appeal (this while we were discussing the right to
practice hours in the gym). Another time he complained that we shouldn’t be
allowed to run/warm up off the court during his team’s practice because it was
too distracting for the boys (he didn’t oppose to any of the male teams doing
the same though).
In my first ever trip to the USA I visited
Madison Square Garden with my family. While there, my older brother wanted to
buy a Michael Jordan's jersey and so did I. He had his wish satisfied, but I
didn’t, I guess because my parents didn’t take my passion for basketball seriously.
Not long after that my brother quitted basketball (just like he quitted any other sport he ever tried), I, on the other hand went on to play basketball for the next
13+ years.
These are just a few examples on how in a lot
of ways society still holds people back. What holds girls back it’s not the
fact that they are girls, but that quite often our society still perceives
girls as weak and shallow, and at the same time perpetuates the idea that a
perfect girl has to be ladylike, quiet and demure. And it’s not just in sports,
it’s everywhere and sometimes this prejudice also affects boys. How many girls
are truly allowed to dream about being an astronaut, or a drummer or a truck
driver? How many boys would be encouraged to be a ballet dancer, a hairdresser
or a nanny? These predefined gender roles don’t make sense anymore,
not that they did before, but by now there are no excuses, we should know
better than that.
Empowering women (or anyone for that matter) is
not about encouraging them to fight men or other women, au contraire, the idea
is to raise people who are confident in their own skin, who think as
individuals, who are supportive and respect other points of view.
Successful women are frequently perceived as despiteful
and cold. There’s this idea that in order to achieve success a woman as to be nasty,
especially to other women. And if they are not we, as a society, often
encourage them against each other, by making unnecessary comparisons, snarky
comments or creating drama were it doesn’t exist. As if to be on the top one would need everyone
else to be in the bottom, while the reality is that to be strong and
competitive you don’t need to be ruthless. A tough person is not the one that finds
her success by destroying her competition, but the one that is able to reach
her goals while being supportive and empowering others, because having strong
competitors is what makes you better. A true champion doesn’t want win because
the competition has failed, she wants to win because she was better.
A lot has been said about feminism lately and I
agree that some people take it to such an extreme that it becomes ridiculous,
but the idea of empowering women is not about degrading men, or teaching young
girls that they’re better than the opposite sex, it’s about embracing the
uniqueness of both genders, accepting their differences, their strengths,
and acknowledge the need to provide equal opportunities.
Instead of disseminating these preconceptions
(that we often do unintentionally) we need to start teaching our children that they
can be whatever they want to be, whatever they truly are, as long as they treat
those around them with kindness and respect. We need to teach girls (of all
ages) that they can be terrific athletes and still wear dresses and high heels
off the court, that they don’t have to wear make-up but they can if they want
to, that women can be ambitious, driven, and focused on their careers, that
there is nothing wrong with a woman not wanting to become a mother.
Girls need to learn that it’s okay to be loud
and make themselves noticed, if that’s who they are. They need people to
understand that to be strong they don’t need to give up their emotions, that to
be great sports players they don’t need to give up their femininity and that being
beautiful, and proud of it, doesn’t take anything away from their brains.
We started
with sports and we will finish the same way because sports’ benefits go way
beyond fitness, they can have such a great impact in a person's self-esteem, in
building character and confidence. Becky Hammon, Candace Parker, Serena and
Venus Williams, Katie Ledecky, Simone Biles, Rosa Mota, Vanessa Fernandes... the list goes
on and on. They all play(ed) like girls and jump(ed) like girls and run (ran)
like girls and they are (were) top athletes. They all achieved greatness, some
of them against all odds.
So we need to actively start working in closing the gap and we can do this by taking our children (boys and girls) to female sport events, by introducing them to great female athletes they may otherwise not hear about, by allowing our girls to try out “boys’ sports” and wear sports clothes, by supporting them if they don’t want to wear dresses to school so they can run and jump freely and accept the fact they will be coming home with scrapped knees and elbows.

All in a day / Num só dia
Note: Versão portuguesa mais abaixo.
They wake up, and not long after that they are moms and dads, doctors and policemen. In a matter of seconds they are building Christmas’ trees and caroling. With precision they create helicopters that smoothly turn into cars and later into birthday cakes.
They wake up, and not long after that they are moms and dads, doctors and policemen. In a matter of seconds they are building Christmas’ trees and caroling. With precision they create helicopters that smoothly turn into cars and later into birthday cakes.
After a quick break they are on a train headed to
the beach to visit the fish and swim with the sharks. They race with the same
emotion as if they are in the Olympics and play football as if they are facing
World’s Cup elimination.
In a hurried bathroom pause (always
multitasking) they rehearse their chants, but swiftly prepare to the next
challenge. They check others for damage and try to keep control of the room. They
hear their colleagues’ opinions and are promptly ready to rebut every argument.
They cook a three course meal and feed the children, and after all that they
still have the time (and energy) to ride their bike.
As the day comes closer to to its end, gathered
around the table, they still have time to ask about their families and make
plans for a day out. And when it’s all finally over, they sleep… like the babies
they are. Imagination probably still running wild in their dreams, resting just
enough to be ready to yet another exciting day.

Ouvem as opiniões

Being me / Ser eu
Nota: Versão portuguesa mais abaixo.
Being me is living in a constant struggle. It’s
panicking in advance and having to push myself to do anything. It’s constantly putting myself on the line.
It’s being afraid of everything and knowing that if I’d only do what I was comfortable
with, most days I wouldn’t even get out of the house.
Being me is not being able to fall asleep at
night because I’m dreaming of all the things I could do and do nothing at all.
It’s feeling the urge to change the world and yet fear failure so much that I can’t
even make a move. It's doubting every single skill I have. It’s hearing someone
say 100 great things about me and only listen to the not so positive one. Is hating
myself for every misstep, even if the outcome is positive. It’s reaching for
perfection and holding myself to higher standards even though I believe pretty
much anyone is better than me.
Being me is having days I don’t feel anything
and days I feel everything at once. It’s feeling empty and numb or scared and
tired. It’s trying to grasp all moments of joy so badly that I almost let them
pass by me. It’s remembering every spoken word. It's playing conversations in
my head over and over again. It’s hearing I have a way with words and not being
able to have a proper conversation in real life. It's preaching about trust and
trusting no-one. It’s assuming I have to give all I have and expect nothing
from anyone.
Being me is wanting to be alone but not wanting
to be lonely. It’s taking special interest in people as species and yet not being
so sure I understand them. It’s not being comfortable around people and not
being able to live without them. It’s wanting to keep my distance and yet
finding myself making connections wherever I go.
Being me is being overwhelmed with thoughts and
ideas and yet feeling so empty inside. It’s lacking creativity and then
spending my days imagining worst case scenarios. It’s feeling my heart shrinking,
my breaths becoming harder and shorter and always pretend I’m in my pretty happy
bubble.
Being me is keeping tabs and notes on everything
just in case it might come in handy one day. It's using that evidence to
realize that after decades I still struggle with the same issues. It’s knowing
the root of my problems and not being able to tackle them. It's traveling
worlds away and realizing I can't run away from myself. It's creatively
changing the scenario but not what's inside. It’s having to admit that the problem
is in me and facing the reality that likely some things will never change.
Being me is having people's faith and not
knowing what to do with it. It’s deceiving them every day. It's faking
confidence and living in constant agony. It’s wanting to be loved and hating the
pressure of being loved at all. It’s being afraid to let people know what they
mean to me and at the same time being scared not to show them enough.
Being me is being proud and appreciative of the
people I have in my life and still need to refuge my soul in my imaginary
world. It’s not being able to forget even though I admire those who can forgive.
It's pretending like nothing can hit me and feel with every fiber of my being.
It's admiring vulnerability and keeping myself wrapped up inside.
Being me is overthinking every single move and
not being able to justify my issues. It’s constantly lying to myself, promising
that better days will come. It’s fighting, day in and day out not to let myself
be consumed by what goes inside me. It’s putting on a mask and smile the fears
away. It’s writing the words I can’t say and dream the life I can’t have.

Ser eu
Ser eu é viver numa luta
constante.
a saltar o risco.
É ouvir alguém dizer 100 coisas maravilhosas a meu respeito e apenas escutar a
menos positiva.
É sentir-me vazia e dormente ou
dita.
É querer manter a distância e
É sentir o meu coração a encolher, a minha respiração a acelerar e fingir
É fingir que nada me atinge e sentir
com cada fibra do meu ser. É admirar vulnerabilidade mas fechar-me no meu
casulo.

We are who we are / Somos quem somos
Nota: Versão portuguesa mais abaixo
We are who we are for a lot of reasons. It’s true that we start life with a set of
pre-defined traits, but it’s also true that we are shaped by every experience.
We are constantly changing, adapting, evolving. Every chance meeting, every
event, every interaction plays a role in the person we eventually become.
People around us have the ability to raise or
lower our standards. They can make us believe and challenge us to become better
versions of ourselves or feed our fears and encourage us to be less.
We cross paths with so many people throughout
life and they all teach us something. Good or bad, they all bring something
that we can use to improve who we are, how we face life and how we perceive
others. It’s not always smooth and easy,
it’s hard to keep perspective at times, you may feel hurt or betrayed, but with
time (and effort) you can use every experience to improve yourself.
We don’t always take the proper time to
consider and value the ones we keep close in our lives. We often just accept
what we’re given. But if it’s true that people around us have a strong
influence in what we become, it is also true that we have the power to choose
who we surround ourselves with. It is our job to
make sure that we keep ourselves surrounded by those who can have a positive
impact in our lives. And that is not saying that you get rid of people when
things get tough, positive influences don’t always come in nice packages, it
just means that you surround yourself with people who respect you and are
willing to fight and work and be more.
Some people teach us to love and trust, to
laugh and appreciate the good things in live. Some people teach us to stand up
for ourselves, even if it’s against them that we need to stand up for. Others
remind us how volatile relationships can be, how easily people bail when it
gets hard. With some we learn to say no and to stop blaming ourselves for
everything that happens. What they all have in common, is they all help us
grow.
A lot of people will enter and exit our lives,
but just because they leave it doesn’t mean a part of them doesn’t stay with us
forever. In fact, like so often happens in life, the most challenging experiences
end up the being the ones that teach us the most. So in the end, what really
determines who we are is how we cope with all these feelings and emotions. It
is our choice to let these experiences make us bitter or take advantage of them
and become better for ourselves and others.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Somos quem somos
Estamos constantemente
a mudar, adaptar, evoluir.
As pessoas à nossa volta têm a
amar e confiar, a rir e a apreciar as coisas boas da vida. Algumas pessoas

All different, all the same / Todos diferentes, todos iguais
Nota: Versão portuguesa mais abaixo.
I like to believe that we have an impact in
this world and I try my best to have a positive one.
I want to make a difference, but I don’t always
know how, because I don’t know how to fight something that I don’t understand,
that I don’t get where it comes from.
I know it’s important to speak up, that it
helps, that we have to educate people, that being silent is (a big) part of the
problem… but where do I even start? How can I make people see something that
should be so obvious? How can I show someone that the color of someone’s skin
doesn’t define their personality? How do I teach them that someone’s sexual
orientation doesn’t make them better or worse people? How to stop them to make
superficial judgments?
I find it very hard to hear people’s arguments
to justify prejudice. To justify what doesn’t have a plausible justification. I
don’t even know where to start to reason with them, because I can’t stand their
arguments. Sometimes I have to stop listening, I need to block it out, which is
selfish, but I just can't even begin to understand how it is possible to hate
someone based on their origins, skin color, religion or sexual orientation.
How can people not see that we're all humans?
How can people justify double standards? How can you be against any form of love?
It is hard for me to admit that there’s such a long
way to go still… it’s amazing how often you hear racist and homophobic comments
from what should be educated people. In a lot of cases people aren’t even aware
of their prejudices. At first sight they are accepting, but then they let the
truth slip between their comments. People don’t realize the impact of their
words, they don’t even see they’re part of the problem.
I struggle with how to deal with this because I
know I can't force my principles on people, preaching to them won’t have any
real effect and I can’t simply change or try to control their minds.
I’m guilty of not always speaking up, I admit.
I don’t because it makes me mad, because I’m almost afraid of what I might
hear, because I fear to see sides of people I don’t really want to see. But we must
speak up, because ignoring the problem means to be part of it!
I don’t know how to deal with all the prejudice
that is still around us, I don’t know how to make people see that we are all
deserving of love, respect and acceptance, I don’t know how to make a change…
what I do know is that you can’t fight negativity with negativity. So until I find
a better solution I choose to focus on the bright side. Instead of focusing on
the dark voices, I choose to support those who are trying to have a positive
impact for these communities.
I can’t promise to change someone’s mind, but I
can vow to work hard so that the next generation sees immigrants, refugees, biracial
couples or LGBT’s rights as something so natural that vouching for them won’t
even be necessary. What I can do is commit myself to contribute to this cause
by making sure our kids contact with different cultures, learn about
diversified heroes, hear fairytales about same gender couples and non-stereotyped
families. By making sure diversity is such a natural part of their everyday
life that nothing else makes sense.
These should all be all non-issues by now. We
shouldn’t need to fight against racism or homophobia anymore, we shouldn’t need
to fight for equality. People should be able take it for granted. To feel safe,
accepted and loved as long as they respect others and treat them with kindness.
There are so many other complex subjects to worry about, this shouldn’t be one
of them. It’s sad, frustrating and most of the times even maddening, but if we
don’t give up, if we keep standing up for what we believe, what we know is
right, eventually change will happen.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::.
Todos diferentes, todos
iguais
superficiais?
Custa-me muito ouvir raciocínios
é impressionante a quantidade
As pessoas deviam

verdadeiramente numerosa. Habituada a casas cheias, almoços barulhentos e
me tinham ajudado.
a estar presente - a fazer “babysitting”,
a dar-lhes boleias, conselhos, mimos e abraços.
No outro
realmente importam.

“We like people for
what we want them to be, or what we think they are, more than for what they
truly are (….) we create static images, more or less uniform of ourselves and
others, but people are not uniform, they have emotions and complex motivations,
desires, fears, expectations, often contradictory, besides they are always
changing. "

Expectations. They are everywhere, they are our
own worst enemy and if we’re not careful they can undermine everything around
us. Expectations lead to frustration, and even though we hate them, we keep
forcing them on others. They're sneaky little things, we don't see them coming
until they're already too deep. Until we are faced with disappointment. It’s
not always conscious, but we create ideals in our heads that make very hard for
anyone to live up to. We put people in boxes, we label them, we try to
compartmentalize and keep it organized, but the thing is… people are
multidimensional, they have different sides to them, different emotions rise at
different times and no matter how long we’ve known someone, we can never 100%
predict how they will act at all times.
We often set ourselves up for heartbreak
because of the expectations we create. We judge people based on images we
created of them without their permission. We resent them for disappointing us
based on ideals they never agreed to live up to.
The more we like someone, higher are the
standards we set up for them. We put people we care about in pedestals until
it's impossible for them to do anything other than disappoint us, because
no-one is that constant, no-one is that perfect. So it's not surprising that
people we once loved are the ones who end up disappointing us the most, and
it's not always their fault, at least not completely.
Relationships are hard enough without the added
pressure. We need to learn how to let go of our expectations, to stop expecting
people to be perfect and just embrace who they truly are.
We use them against ourselves too.
Expectations. We develop characters based on other people’s expectations, based
on our own expectations. We become afraid to deviate from the pattern, to be
different. We disguise ourselves for so long, that eventually we forget who we really
are.

Expectativas.
nossa volta.
Colocamos as
expectativas.
somos.

You take her in your arms and you hold her
close. The sweet baby smell quickly overpowering all your senses. It’s not your
first time with a baby, not even your first time with a baby this young, and
yet you can’t help but be in awe of her. How can something so little hold so
much perfection?
Your hand travels to hers and slowly but surely
she wraps her tiny fingers around one of your own. Her grasp gentle and yet so
comforting. She stares at you with wide curious eyes and you take in all her
beauty – the flawless skin, the rosy cheeks, the tiny little nose.
It’s in moments like this you wish you could
stop time – so you could keep her safe in your arms, forever, where no harm can
reach her, where she doesn’t have to experience the darkness of life.
There’s nothing new for you about this, you
have been around children plenty, but it always strikes you how everyone starts
out like this – so pure, naïve and innocent. You wonder where we get lost. As
humans, how we go from this level of perfection to the unstable mess most of us
feel like on a regular basis. You can’t help but feel a bit jealous of her
freedom, her life still a blank page, no expectations, no mistakes, still with
a chance to become whatever she wants to be.
You may be holding a life in your hands but you
don’t feel like you have any power, she does. She, someone destined to do great
things, like you were once, like we all were. Someone that still has her whole
life ahead of her to do it.
It takes you back to when you were a child,
living the dream. You miss those times. As you grew holder it became harder to
believe. It’s not that you don’t want to, it’s just that so much has happened,
you feel so tired, so empty, so trapped, that you don’t know how.
She’s just lying there, so calm and relaxing,
and while looking at the tiny human in your arms you are hit with a gush of
fresh air, a quiet voice that whispers that you still have a chance, that you
can still do things, that you can chose where to go from here. Maybe you don't
need to travel back in time and start over. Maybe all you need is a reminder of
why it is worth keep fighting for, because all of us are destined to do special
things in our lives, it just happens that some get lost along the way.

We’re nothing more than a drop in the ocean,
But we can be better than a mere portion.
We can be a speck of dust waiting to be blown
away,
Or we can be the ray of light at the end of the
day.
My life is full of sweet beginnings,
I’ve faced my fears and took the winnings.
Despite the pain I kept my aim,
And nothing now will ever feel the same.
There can’t be only one open door,
To the world around us there must be more.
Maybe I’m selfish, I can’t be content
Don’t want to wonder where I should have went.
In all its glory we go through the motion,
With hearts so full of deep emotions.
With every blow we might get broken,
But we won’t leave any words unspoken.
I have it clear, in my own vision,
All I can get with the right decision.
I have been wrong so many times before,
But this time I know, I feel it in my core.
I know you think I should take caution,
That this can lead to more complications.
But I can’t change the circumstances,
All I have left is to take my chances.
So I’m done playing by the rules,
Because all we are is a bunch of fools.
We have a world so full of options,
If we’re not afraid to take some actions.

transmitir. Há quem lhe chame vocação.
A escolha é nossa, seguir a nossa
pois eles marcam as pessoas. Contudo, enquanto seres humanos podemos sempre

Education is the light of life, its fundamental
foundation, and educators are its mediators.
They say educator is the one that consciously
or unconsciously teaches something to someone, but more than teaching, an
educator is someone who helps you find your true self, who changes you as a
person. An educator is not someone who simply transmits knowledge, but the one
whose wisdom you carry with you through life.
An educator faces a new challenge every day, it’s
an ongoing process where the educator also constantly learns, and where he too
is transformed by the people around him.
Education is a complex process, more than most
people imagine. It demands study and knowledge, but it also demands something
that can’t be taught. Something that either you have it or not.
Theory is important, but we can't get lost in
it, we need to remember what it means to think like a human being, to feel like one.
Great educators aren't made. They are born. And
they aren’t just randomly born one day. They are born from a combination of
knowledge, dedication and something innate, something indescribable, something
that can’t be transmitted. Some say it’s true
calling.
It is a choice, to follow our true calling or
not. Following our calling doesn’t always mean it's going to be an easy road
though. Our impact is major, as educators we can't undo our mistakes, for what
we do stays with people. However, as human beings we can always try to do
better next time.
The true educator is not always our friend,
sometimes he’s too demanding, cranky, sometimes he knows us too well, knows
where to push, exactly what to do to take us out of our comfort zone. The true
educator is someone we respect, not because some hierarchy says so, but because
his respect was earned. For that reason the pressure is higher and disappointing
him more devastating… but the thing is, true educators won’t be disappointed by
our mistakes. They might let us fall, but they’ll be there to help us stand up
and try again. Good educators remind us that there are no limits, and that we
must dream, they believe in us even when we can’t. A lot of educators teach
important things, but the one thing they should always teach is how to dream, because
there's nothing more important than.
The educators we remember are not necessarily
the ones who offered us more knowledge, but the ones that spent time to get to
know us, that saw us as unique individuals, the ones that touched us. Because
knowledge is important, but so are emotions. There can’t be one without the
other. And because people need to feel emotionally involved, to be able to
teach them, the educator has to be able to touch their emotions.
The influence of an educator doesn’t end with
the end of school year, because when an educator touch us their voice, calm and
confidence will remain with us… always!
Always
...I dreamed of you again.
It didn’t hurt like it used to, at
least not after I woke up.
This time when I opened my eyes there
were no tears or sobs, just… silence.
In my dream I was still mourning you
though…
One day I’ll have to forgive myself
for not being there for what should have been our last dinner together. A fact
I know no one remembers, and yet I can't forget.

“You live alone, for
the others, when you should learn how to live with them”

You were taught to do the right thing, to be
polite, to put others first and protect the things you love. You were raised to
be a good man in the storm. You
convinced yourself that’s what they need you to be, always. Maybe it’s because
you have a predisposition to martyr yourself, or maybe you just need to believe
you have a reason to be here, but how realistic is that? How true, even?
You have this obsession with fixing things,
fixing people, simply because you can't fix yourself. You put others first not
because you are selfless, but so you don't have to focus on your own issues. You
do it because it makes you feel good about yourself. But if you always put
others first, in the end, where do you even stand?
In the long run, if you refuse to satisfy or
even acknowledge your own needs, how can you be expected to be satisfy others’?
It’s actually dishonest and hypocritical, it’s
unfair. That you don’t give people the opportunity to even try and do the same
thing for you. You preach about the importance of trust and openness while
you’re the queen of isolation land. You are always there, but you always keep
at arm’s length. You always have one foot out the door, you don’t get too
involved, too attached, because when things get real, that’s when people get
hurt.
You care about people, no matter how long
you've been trying to convince yourself that you don't. Despite all your
efforts to be self-sufficient.
You’ve always been surrounded by people, loads
of them, people that care about you just as much as you care about them. You’ve
never been alone, not once in your lifetime, and yet the loneliness you feel
inside is almost constant. You know that you’re not supposed to do it alone,
that you don’t have to do it alone, that it takes a village, and you’re lucky
enough to have one, you just haven’t figured out how to rely on it yet.
You share spaces and memories with the people
around you, but you don't live with them. You have your own secluded life. You've set yourself apart. You've been trying
to keep the storm away for so long, that you forgot how to let people in.

enquanto tu és o rei do reino do isolamento. Estás sempre presente, mas manténs
a distância.
Tens a tua própria vida,
isolada de tudo e de todos. Distanciaste-te do mundo.
